The short answer

Optometry Clinic Lite is the free edition of our optometry practice module, for a clinic running patients, appointments, exams, prescriptions and recall on core Odoo alone. Every recall is typed and priced, so the board can lead with what the unworked ones are worth. Exams hold full refraction, acuity and both pressures as fields, which is why the numbers can be counted later.

What it is for

A practice does not sell appointments. It sells a recall cycle, and the difference between a patient seen once and a patient seen every year for decades is a phone call somebody did or did not make. Odoo can already tell you that an appointment did not happen. It cannot tell you what the missed one was worth, because nothing in it knows that a lapsed glaucoma follow-up and a spectacle recheck are different amounts of money.

What is inside it

  1. 01

    The recall book

    Five recall types ship, each carrying the interval and what a visit of that type normally captures. The amounts are ordinary Python constants you edit to your own prices.

  2. 02

    The eye exam

    Sphere, cylinder, axis and add for each eye, with uncorrected and corrected acuity, a pressure in both eyes, the mean computed rather than typed, plus pupillary distance, assessment and plan.

  3. 03

    The cockpit

    Twelve tiles over the recall book, exam volume, prescription capture and the day, with five charts under them. The pressure chart deliberately ignores the board's date window.

  4. 04

    The hard part

    A tile's context merges with the filters its action already carries, and two search filters AND together. The inherited one is suppressed with a falsy value, and a test re-evaluates every tile.

  5. 05

    Free vs full

    The graded anterior-eye chart, its replayable history, the prescription release ledger and optical job tracking through the lab all belong to the paid edition, which shares the same records.

What it looks like in practice

  1. A recall goes a year past its date and nothing happens

    The due date passes on a sight-test recall. The record still reads Due, and nobody's inbox knows about it.

    A scheduled action runs nightly, moves past-due recalls to Overdue and files an activity on the record reading Reach out to schedule this patient recall, which puts it in an Odoo inbox rather than in a report nobody opens.

  2. Two pressures are entered and nobody wants to average them by hand

    An exam records a reading in each eye. Whether the pair is worth a second look depends on a figure somebody would otherwise have to work out.

    The mean is computed from the two eyes, the row decorates red once it reaches the threshold, and the cockpit tile keys on the same constant the search filter uses, so the tile that says three opens those three exams.

  3. A tile counts one state while its action defaults to another

    The recall action opens on Due and Overdue. A tile counting recalls already booked in is a different state entirely, so the click would land on an empty list under a number that just said otherwise.

    The tile passes the inherited filter as a falsy value, which is Odoo's documented way of suppressing one, so the click lands on the rows the number came from. Appointments today counts from midnight for the same reason.

What it deliberately does not do

No slit-lamp chart
Exams hold assessment and plan as text. The graded anterior-eye chart belongs to the paid edition.
No billing or invoicing
Recalls carry an expected value so they can be ranked. Nothing posts to Odoo accounting, and the module does not depend on the sales stack.
No SMS or email recall campaigns
The nightly job raises the recall and files an activity. Contacting the patient is a person, using Odoo's own mail.
No lab or optical job tracking
A prescription is where this edition stops. Frames, lenses, the lab and the remake rate are in the paid edition.
No visual fields, OCT or imaging
Scans live as plain attachments on the record. Nothing renders them and no device talks to the module.

Questions

Can I install this on Odoo Online?
No. Odoo Online cannot install modules that contain Python, so this runs on Odoo.sh or a self-hosted instance. Check the versions listed above for the series and edition it is verified against.
Does the free edition include the graded anterior-eye chart?
No. Exams hold assessment and plan as free text. The graded chart, its replayable history, the release ledger and lab job tracking are all paid-edition features, and because both editions define the same records, a database takes one of them and never the pair.
What does activation send you?
The first time you open it the module asks for a short form and stays locked until you fill it in. It sends your practice name, your name, work email, phone number and country, the practice-size band you pick, the module name and version, and your Odoo version. No clinical record ever leaves your database, and nothing goes before you tick consent.
What if the server cannot reach the internet?
It activates regardless and the message is queued until a connection returns. A second, separate tick asks whether you want product-update emails; it is optional and refusing it changes nothing about activation.
