Home Care — Visit Planner (Gantt)

Visits on a timeline by caregiver, with unassigned work pinned to the top.

The short answer

Home Care — Visit Planner puts caregiver visits on an Odoo Gantt, with a row per person plus a row for the visits nobody has been rostered to yet. Care coordinators on Odoo Enterprise use it to fill gaps in the roster and to see where the hours actually pile up. Dropping a visit onto a caregiver writes that assignment to the record.

What it is for

On a list, an unassigned visit looks like every other visit apart from one empty column. It sorts into the middle of the week and it gets found, if it gets found at all, by somebody scrolling. Meanwhile a client is expecting a caregiver at the door. Load hides the same way: several caregivers each holding a plausible number of visits can still mean one person running a punishing Thursday, and nothing sorted by client will show you that before the day starts.

What is inside it

  1. 01

    The planner

The Gantt runs on each visit's scheduled start and stop, with a row for every caregiver. Visits nobody is rostered to gather in one group at the top, which Odoo labels Undefined Caregiver.

  2. 02

    Planning board

Six tiles built for rostering rather than billing: unassigned work, visits in the period, scheduled care hours, what is coming in the next week, completion and average visit length.

What it looks like in practice

  1. A visit on the round has nobody on it

The visit has a scheduled start and stop, and its caregiver field is empty. On the list view that is one empty column among many rows.

The planner collects every unassigned visit into a group at the top of the timeline, and the board counts them on a tile of their own. Drag the bar onto a caregiver row and the assignment is written to the visit.

  2. The roster looks plausible until you total the hours

Everybody on the team has a believable number of visits against their name. Nobody has added up what those visits demand of the week.

The board states scheduled care hours next to the visit count, so load is reported in hours rather than inferred from how long the rows look. Average visit length sits beside it for the same reason.

  3. One caregiver's day is stacked while the next is thin

A pair of visits sit at overlapping times against the same person, and the list view separates them by a screenful of other rows.

Each caregiver is a row, so bars that overlap in time sit literally on top of one another. The planner will still let the day be saved: it draws booked work and knows nothing about contracted hours or leave.

What it deliberately does not do

Requires Odoo Enterprise
web_gantt ships with Enterprise only, so a Community database cannot install this bridge at all.
Requires Home Care
Home Care owns the clients, care plans and visits. This supplies the view and the board, and does nothing on its own.
No travel or routing
It shows who is free when. It does not know how long the drive between clients takes.
No availability or leave
Caregiver rows show booked work, not contracted hours or time off. Overbooking somebody is still possible.

Questions

Can I install this on Odoo Online?
No. Odoo Online cannot install modules that contain Python, so this runs on Odoo.sh or a self-hosted instance. Check the versions listed above for the series and edition it is verified against.
We are on Odoo Community. Can we use this?
No. The timeline comes from web_gantt, an Enterprise-only view, so Apps will not offer this module on a Community database. The Home Care module works there perfectly well; what you lose is the drag-to-assign planner and its board, not the visits themselves.
Does it account for travel time between clients?
No. It shows who is free at what time, and nothing in it measures the journey from one address to the next. Sequencing a round so that it is actually drivable stays a human judgement; the planner records the window you commit to and draws it.
Will it stop me overbooking somebody?
No. A caregiver row shows work already booked, not contracted hours or annual leave, so overlapping visits against the same person save without complaint. The overlap is visible on the row, which is the point of the view, but no availability check sits behind it.
